Why are you starting a blog, and what are your short term goals? (share a message, make money)
__________________________________________
Decide if you going to be the name or face behind the blog, or if it should be a resource type blog?
__________________________________________
What is the niche focus of your blog and how are you going to provide value to your audience?
__________________________________________
Do you have enough content to write around your blog focus? Is it also too generic or too niche?
__________________________________________
Who is your target audience and how will you get your blog content in front of them?
__________________________________________
Make a list and consider different ideas, names and domain names for your blog.

Register Your Domain Name
Take some time to think about a great domain name for your site. It should represent the type of content you are going to create and the brand you want to build. Try to stick with a com, .net or .org, and also make sure it's something easy to remember and spell.
Choose a Hosting Plan
When choosing a hosting solution, a shared hosting plan through Bluehost is more than enough for most site owners, bloggers and brands. When registering through blogging.org/bluehost, plans start as low as just $2.95 per month.
Install WordPress
WordPress is the free content management software that you will use to create your site. Setting up WordPress through Bluehost is simply a process of clicking a few buttons and filling in your personal and site information.
Finding a WordPress Theme for Your Site
WordPress is great because it makes the customization and design of your site so easy. We recommend going with a premium theme to make your site stand out and look professional. In this guide, we are using blogging.org/mythemeshop as the provider of our premium WordPress theme.
Download and Install Your Theme
After you find a WordPress theme you like, all you then need to do is download and install it into WordPress. Then go to dashboard > appearance area to customize the look of your site.
Customizing WordPress
Before going live with content on your site, we need to first make some WordPress changes and customizations. Such updates include site details, permalinks, reading settings and more.
Writing Your First Blog Post
The first blog post on your site can be about anything, but I would recommend having it be a useful resource or something about why you started a blog in the first place, and what your audience should expect in upcoming posts.
Writing Your "About Me" Page
The "About Me" page is one of the most read and most important pages on your site. Make sure to include personal information about yourself so people can related to you and your story. Also, include images and anything else of value you have to offer while backing up your expertise.
Creating a "Contact Me" Page
Having a contact page on your site is ideal for staying in touch with your audience. This is easy to set up through the use of the "Contact Form 7" plugin right within WordPress.
Creating a Mailing List for Your Blog
A mailing list is one of the most important things to add to your blog from day one, as it's the best way to keep in touch with your audience after they leave your site. We recommend and use blogging.org/convertkit for our list hosting service.
Adding a Subscription Form to Your Blog
Once you've created your mailing list account, it's time to create a new list and add a subscription form to your site. Play around with different placements and form settings on your site to see which work best. Also, create a powerful call to action to entice visitors to join your list.
Going Live with Your Second Blog Post
It's time to go live with yet another blog post on your site. Make sure your content is relevant to the focus of your blog and your target audience. Also link back to your original post within this article.
Creating the Main Page for Your Blog
Some blogs will have all of their latest posts go directly to their main page, others will create a static page that stays the same. In this course, we are going to create a site that has a static main page, which also references to our blog content.
Going Live with Your Third Blog Post
It's time to write and publish another article to your site. As always, keep your content focused on the common theme of your site and providing value to your audience. Include images, references, and also link back to your previous blog posts.
Focusing on Your Pillar
"Pillar content" is the main resources and article content of your site. In short, it's the type of content that most of your audience will be looking for. Spend some time on your pillar content ideas and how you can incorporate them into your site.
Creating Call-to-Actions with OptinMonster
To increase engagement and mailing list signups on your site, you need to get creative with your call to actions and marketing. OptinMonster is one of the best tools for accomplishing this. Create an account at blogging.org/optinmonster to follow along with our actionable steps.
Adding a Unique Subscription Form to Sidebar
Using OptinMonster, we can start creating attention grabbing subscription forms throughout our site. Examples include sidebar forms, popup forms and also in-content subscription forms.
Publishing Your Next Blog Post
Keeping with the theme of going live with a new article for the first few days of this course, it's time to create another. As always, provide as much value as possible and link back to your previous blog posts and articles with relevant anchor text.
Build a Resources Page for Your Blog
Having a resource page on your site will provide great value to your audience, while also offering the opportunity to monetize your traffic in the process. When creating a resource page, make sure it provides real value and isn't just pushing products and services to try and make money.
Enable Redirect Plugin for Link Tracking
Download and install "Pretty Link" within the WordPress plugins area to create redirect URLs.
Blog Monetization Opportunities
Consider different ways to start monetizing traffic to your site. Options include affiliate marketing, selling banner ad space and growing your list.
Write and Publish Your 5th Blog Post
Once again, go live with a new blog post on your site. Also, link back to any relevant blog posts.
