About me
Why should I get certified?
There are three main reasons why you should earn an AI or privacy certification.
First, it demonstrates expertise. IAPP (formerly the International Association of Privacy Professionals) certificates are the GOLD STANDARD of AI and privacy certificates. Having an IAPP certificate such as the CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, or AIGP demonstrates that you have a strong understanding of AI and privacy laws and regulations.
Second, privacy certificate holders earn a higher salary. According to the 2023 IAPP Privacy Professional Salary Survey, holders of one IAPP certificate earned 13% MORE than non-certificate holders. Holders of two or more IAPP certificates earned 27% more! Respondents reported an annual salary of USD $146,000, with Chief Privacy Officers averaging USD $206,000 annually.
Finally, privacy professionals report high job satisfaction and work-life balance. Eighty-six percent of survey respondents reported being either “satisfied” or “extremely satisfied” with their jobs. Similarly, 69% work primarily from home, with 50% of respondents being fully remote.
Why should I use your courses to prepare for certification?
Successfully passing an IAPP examination has two components: 1) Learning to think like an AI and privacy professional, and 2) finding the right materials. In my courses, you get both.
My courses are ideal for all learners: experienced, returning, auditory, and visual. While textbooks and online reading courses work for some folks, studies demonstrate that we learn best through multi-modal learning. That is, we learn faster and more efficiently when we can listen, read, and think through topics under the guidance of an experienced instructor. With my courses, this is exactly what you get.
What are your qualifications?
In addition to having earned a Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, and possessing more than 20 years of in-person and online teaching experience, I have passed multiple, challenging exams, including the CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, AIGP, CISSP, and AAISM. Additionally, I am a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University's Privacy Engineering Certificate program. I have earned top-tier cybersecurity certifications, such as (ISC)2's CISSP, ISACA's Advanced in AI Security Management, and the GIAC Critical Controls Certification.
My approach to teaching artificial intelligence and privacy is interdisciplinary. This means that I incorporate a strong grasp of law, information technology, cybersecurity, data science, and privacy policies and regulations into every course.
In addition to teaching on Udemy, I have more than four years' experience as a privacy analyst for a large public sector organization with over 100,000 employees. One of my primary responsibilities included developing and delivering advanced privacy training to our workforce.
Finally, I am actively involved with the IAPP. I served as co-chair of a local KnowledgeNet from 2022-23 and I have organized panels for and spoken at major IAPP events, including the annual Global Privacy Summit in Washington, DC.
